For more than 30 years, Karen dedicated her life to caring for others as a nurse. Refusing to surrender hope, she later traveled to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston to explore additional treatment options, praying for more time with the family she loved so deeply.
Even after physicians explained that no further treatments were likely to help, Karen’s faith never wavered. Entering hospice care earlier this month, she remained steadfast in her belief that God still had the final word. She once shared that she believed a miracle would come—whether by remaining on earth as a testimony of faith or by finding eternal peace free from pain.
Those closest to Karen say her greatest concern was never for herself but for the loved ones she would leave behind. Her love for her family was evident in every conversation, and even as her illness progressed, she continued thinking of ways to help others.
One of Karen’s most heartfelt dreams was to establish “Karen’s Closet,” a charitable program that would provide free wigs to women beginning chemotherapy. Having collected more than 30 wigs during her own cancer journey, she hoped to ease the emotional burden of hair loss and remind other cancer patients that they were not alone. It was a vision rooted in compassion and reflective of the selfless spirit that defined her life.
